The mayor of a Texas town of around 4,000 residents quit after posting a statement to social media in the wake of major power outages caused by the winter storm that has ravaged the state.
The now former mayor of Colorado City, Texas, Tim Boyd, posted a message that called residents who were without electricity and water due to the historic winter storm "weak" and "lazy" and that the local government and utility services owed them nothing.
"Let me hurt some feelings while I have a minute!!" Boyd says in his post. "No one owes you or your family anything; nor is it the local government's responsibility to support you during trying times like this! Sink or swim it's your choice! The City and County, along with power providers or any other service owes you NOTHING!!"
He also added, "Bottom line quit crying and looking for a handout! Get off your ass and take care of your own family!"
Boyd deleted the post after it went viral. But a Twitter user took a screenshot of the Facebook post, which can be seen below.
